I’m back at work after Thanksgiving break and that can only mean one thing…listening to Glenn Beck in the morning for amusement. This week, Beck went on for a while about how wonderful and peace-loving his followers are. He recounted an anecdote about a book signing at which he was protested by mean-spirited, table-climbing Occupy radicals–and in response, his supporters sang Christmas carols. He talked about how the liberal media will smear them and say they are horrible, when in reality, these are the good people.
I spent quite a bit of time after election night on The Blaze, Beck’s online forum, so something about this didn’t sound right to me. And lo and behold, here are some quotes from Glenn’s peaceful fans:
“This country or at least half the people in it are a lost cause. It doesn’t matter who wins at this point if we are forced to live with these vermin. It’s time we start eliminating them now.”
“I for one will no longer give to charity in the event that my money would ever help someone who voted for Obama or worse someone who didn’t get off their lazy azz to go vote or decided that it didn’t matter.”
“I like Rush’s idea: kick all of the Liberals out of the West Coast (and shoot them if they try to come back)”
“I’ve lost all faith in america I hope she burns”
“May the coming nuclear strikes hit the big blue cities.”
“Enjoy your trip to the concentration camp and don’t ask for my help, I voted for the American.”
About Californians: “I don’t want to sound crazy, but why does it seem like they need to be contained or eradicated to control their disastrous spread.”
About libertarians: “We might as well have shot them all to death.”
“Oh yeah, New York and New Jersey…have fun with the noreaster. I hope you all freeze. I hope the rats eat your children while they spread the plague to the dim-witted adults who for years have embraced left-wing politicians that have made your states the disasters they are.”
“I hope you’re regulars at soup kitchens because money troubles wrent your families apart.”
“I hope that Obama gets cancer.”
Ah yes, these are the good folks. Now, I get that not everyone on The Blaze acts this way, but every discussion thread I went to on this site included multiple comments either threatening violence or wishing suffering and a slow death to those with opposing political views. And these are the people I’m supposed to go to for Christian love…?
Links to the discussions I’ve culled these quotes from, if you’re brave enough: here, here, here, here and here.

Oy, oy, oy! I feel absolutely slimmed by those comments! These idiots don’t even realize that they are being used by Beck while he rakes in the benjamins. Beck’s followers are the ones that won’t be able to afford healthcare or retirement or a house while he will be flying from coast to coast on his private plane and vacationing in the South of France on his boat. I am appalled at the stupidity!

I am appalled at the stupidity as well–and I am genuinely frightened by the hatred. You’re right, Beck is using them, but they imagine their fellow Americans to be “the enemy”. If any violence ever comes from these people, Glenn will have blood on his hands. Thanks for reading, Eleanor.

But he’ll never take responsibility if his rhetoric does prompt violence. Remember Sarah Palin’s rhetoric right before Gabby Giffords was shot? Sarah and her followers where rippin’ mad that many of us placed that violence at her feet. These people are awful and without a souls.

That’s true. Glenn will often make a violent/offensive comment, and then instantly back away from it, claiming it was a joke–his way of avoiding any consequences for what he says. The man is a coward.

So true, D, so true. Trust you to give me a Bible quote 😉

Wow! The comments from the Beck crowd are all so over the top. When did, “I hope they lose the election next time around and we win” get replaced by, “I hope they get cancer..have their children eaten by rats.. and get shot dead”?
Maybe I have just been confused about what Jesus really would do.

I think we both missed the Bible verse where Jesus was all, “Pray that the children of your enemies are eaten by rats.”
Yeah, the reason why I posted this blog was because I was so horrified by the comments I read on Beck’s page. Then Beck started spouting off about how his followers were the “moral” people and that pushed me over the edge.

Okay, do not, do not , do not take what am about to say as a bad thing. But the comments are are almost as good as the post. And that is a go thing, as anyone who can evoke or incite meaningful banter is doing something right. I’ll be back if only to see what breaks out.

I absolutely do not take that as a bad thing. I love all of the smart and eloquent people who come to banter with me at my blog. My only unfulfilled wish is that at least one Beck-head would visit and explain what could possibly justify comments like the ones above…but I’m not holding my breath for that one.

Keep baiting the hook and tossing in. As long the hook is at the bottom your bound to catch a bottom feeder.

Thanks for the encouragement, Hudson Howl…
