Where are the people who are coming to get you?
Seriously, where are they? Those scary Feds? The ones who are coming to take your guns away? Or force you at gunpoint to buy health insurance and get on the Pill?
One of the first post-election reactions I saw encouraged everyone to “lock and load”. It was followed by countless other conservatives screaming “I’m gonna get my guns before they get me!” Well, so far I have not heard of any people getting taken away in the middle of the night. Except maybe Bradley Manning and the guys at Gitmo, and they sure as hell didn’t get put away for voting Republican. And Michelle Obama still isn’t sending anyone to vegan re-education camps. So what went wrong? The administration has had plenty of time to go after its enemies. Obama has had over four years by now to call off the election, declare a state of emergency and crown himself All-Knowing Islamic-Communist Dictator.
But the only suggestions of violence I’ve seen have been on the conservative online forums. The President is the one who gets death threats–a very high number of them, according to the Secret Service. And as we all know, gun sales went up after the election, and I’m assuming that wasn’t all cocky blue-staters about to go hunting for Romney voters. Which leaves me with one question:
Are they really coming for you, or are you getting ready to come for me?

P.S. Also? Anyone who can give me a valid example of Obama’s henchmen coming for someone gets a gold star. I would genuinely like to know the reason for all this paranoia.

Are you talking about the same people who will force everyone into a same-sex marriage if SCOTUS makes it legal?

Yeah, I almost added “and force you to marry someone of the same sex” to my list 😉 since we all know that will happen once gay marriage becomes legal….

When Bush was Prez going into his second term there were all sorts of rumors regarding suspending the Constitution, plans for the creation of secret labor camps for ‘un-American’ dissenters and the whole Diebold fiasco which might have actually had some validity. The thing though is that Dems never used these bizarro issues to get out the vote, nor did they use them to stoke an almost homicidal hatred of the other side. Alas that’s not the case with either the boys club (including Palin) that ran for Prez nor is it true of their surrogates, robo-callers or Fox Newz henchmen. Worse yet, in their mad grab for power they did what politicians, dictators and megalomaniacs have done throughout centuries: they turned the populace against itself so that we warred with each other on their behalf. Jokes about killing the president? OK, apparently. 47% leeching off the government while real Americans break their backs just to provide and a roof over real American kid’s heads? OK also. So now again the crackpot fear of Obama taking away everyone’s guns. Really? Honestly, how the hell would that happen? Obama would be impeached by members of both parties just for suggesting it, nevermind the folks whose jobs it would be to do the deed getting their heads shot off the moment they stepped onto a gun owner’s lawn. It’s like the abortion debate, a kind of endless pot of gold the Republicans can keep drawing from because the ones who listen are already programmed to froth at the mere idea of it, nevermind actually think it through.
Ach. Glad I dropped out of the last election. Glad too I voted. Everything else was a massive waste of time.

Obama hasn’t even TOUCHED the issue of gun control while he’s been President. He knows perfectly well the kind of firestorm that even mentioning the subject would cause.
Yeah, I remember the crazy conspiracy theories about President Bush too. Come to think of it, I think every American President I’ve lived under was supposed to suspend the election at some point 🙂 The big difference with the righties, to me anyway, is the gun thing. Yes, I understand the Second Amendment and the right to own guns…but conservatives very quickly turn any discussion of political disagreement into a discussion about wanting to shoot somebody or something. I just don’t see that in discussions on the left…perhaps because we are all flower-sniffing wimpy hippies? 🙂
I’m very glad you voted. I also completely understand the “dropping out” part.
