Funny how the politics business works these days. President Obama’s tenure isn’t even over yet, but there’s already a committee planning the Obama presidential library, with places such as Chicago, New York and Hawaii competing to be the location for it. And, as with anything else involving this President, there’s already controversy. Political leaders in Chicago were proposing to offer a $100 million down payment to lure the library foundation to their city, but other locals are asking why tax money should be contributed to this project.
Here’s a simple idea for saving tax and donation money. There’s already a George W. Bush presidential library in Texas. Why not just blend the two together into a state-of-the-art Bushbama Republicrat Library & Museum? Imagine: on the soothing green of the library grounds, we could gaze at a monument to the glorious military-industrial complex, including a sculpture honoring the Unknown Job Creators. Inside, we could attend educational exhibits on topics such as the importance of continuing to be embroiled in the Middle East (and of keeping Guantanamo open), why health care services are better when there is a profit motive involved, and of course a water feature displaying the delicate process by which stock market gains will one day trickle down to the rest of us. (That one takes a little patience.)
Doesn’t that sound delightful? And hell, why wait? Let’s tack on a Hillary Clinton wing right now.
See? Even a progressive like me can come up with good budget-cutting ideas.

Brilliant! I love it! π

Ha, thank you! I was having a distinct moment of cynicism about the Obama administration, what with our renewed involvement in Iraq and all that….

Maybe The Obamush Library could work too lol π
And yeah – he’s a captive of world events with all bad options. It’s perhaps partly his fault, but mostly this is just how it is.
But I think I’ve figured out his strategy for surviving the next 2 years;
just be slow, let the pressuring groups clearly establish their positions, then strike some kind of middle road – disregarding whether this will work or not. He can always blame the nature of things, wait for new positions and strike another “middle ground”. And add some strong and appropriate words.
It’s the tested-and-proven Obama recipe to avoid all responsibilities and relax off work.
He’s just “managing” things and conflicting opinions like math. Thus removing himself and his persona from the whole thing. Fail-proof! (But with casualties of course).

So then you think he’s really the detached professor…eh? I’m hoping that’s not completely the case. He may not be responsible for the world problems we’re experiencing…but as the President, he *is* responsible for offering some kind of response, even if it’s just the best of very bad options…

I couldn’t agree more π
It’s his JOB to fight back and handle the problems. I didn’t see David Cameron go golfing after his statements about the first British beheading. I’m actually turning to Cameron for some “western” pushback and stand up leadership. His stripping terrorfolks of citizenships and passports at the UK borders, speaking forcefully about adherence to the British values as a duty, and not an “option” within the UK. Good.

Yes, I admire Cameron for taking that stance, especially since he will be criticized for it by the more PC voices in his society. I’m not in favor of profiling people by religion…but once you’ve fought in ISIL…
It is Obama’s job to act, but an unenviable one. Americans hate ISIL, but they don’t want another war right now. This leaves us with the paradox of how to respond in a threatening yet non-military way! I’m glad I’m not President…

But Hawaii?? Like, seriously??

Well, he is from there, sort of…right? Hahaha.

A hundred million dollar DOWNPAYMENT on ONE motherfucking library??? I have no idea, but I’m sure that’s more money than the US government spent on ALL libraries combined in 2014.
If Obama wants a library on the cheap, he should just slap a new sign on one of the many NSA data storage sites around the country. Just imagine the volume of knowledge a visitor would gain access to. You could literally learn everything about everybody in the world!
My other suggestion would be to open the library in Gitmo. You know, the place Obama closed on the 1st day of his Presidency. I mean, it’s been empty for almost 7 years now. It should be put to good use.

ROFLMAO! Okay, all of your suggestions are way better than mine. I bow to you.
