So, what is the deal with this cray-cray Trump candidacy? Is it just the reality show from Hell? Is it a dumber incarnation of Mussolini? I’m staring at it in horror, but what is it?
One simple answer is that it’s a reaction to Obama’s presidency. The racists of this country have had a rough seven years trying to deal with the reality of a black President. Now, here comes Trump to the rescue, this man who still hasn’t sorted out his feelings about the KKK. The yokels who cheer for him might not agree with his stances on health care or abortion or almost anything else, but that doesn’t matter–the essence of his campaign is all about bashing brown-skinned people.
Despite the fact that his administration is responsible for a record number of deportations, the screaming heads on talk radio have always accused President Obama of purposely letting high numbers of undocumented Latino immigrants into the country in order to “change our culture” (code language for making the culture less white). But, never fear! Trump is here and he’s going to build a giant wall to protect us from all these foreign aliens.
Likewise, the right-wing conspiracy theorists believe that Obama is sympathetic to radical Islamist terror groups, perhaps even that he’s a radical Muslim himself. This although he has expanded George W’s drone strike program. Once again, Trump bravely steps up to the plate. He will keep all the Muslims out. Radical or non-radical, it doesn’t matter. That should solve the problem.
In an ironic twist, as the President is disrespected because of his skin color, he is simultaneously blamed for being the one to cause racial division in the nation. Apparently, he is too soft on the (scary to conservatives) Black Lives Matter movement. In the world of anti-Obama hysteria, tiny molehills are turned into mountains. As with everything else in his presidency, Obama has treaded very carefully when it comes to incidents of police brutality, not speaking out as forcefully as many would like him to. He got in enough trouble just for saying that Trayvon Martin could have been his kid. And still, according to the crazy rightie blogosphere, he has been coddling rioters and looters. Trump, on the other hand–he doesn’t mess around with those pesky BLM protesters. He will have his own audiences kick and shove them out of his rallies. He’s a big man, that Donald.
So the question is–will we allow the racist backlash against our country’s first African-American President to result in a destructive, reactionary Trump presidency? I sincerely hope not.

Trump is our ugliest side. I’m afraid we have uncaged an animal who wants to eat our humanity.
03/09/2016 at 2:17 pm
You said, “eat out …” and I had the dirtiest thought. Shouldn’t humanity be spelled with a capital “H.” (Don’t fire me). Sorry Eurobrat. This is a serious post. I think your compatriots are going to Celebrity Apprentice Season 66 him. You know, build him up and fire him with unballots. I mean, this has to be a massive prank hatched in the backrooms of Twitter.
03/09/2016 at 2:26 pm
Eat OUR! Lol!!!
03/09/2016 at 2:27 pm
Hahahaahha Worthy of a scream laugh. xoxoxo
03/09/2016 at 2:28 pm
Okay, I see it now. I am so sorry. Must be my fading mascara that stuck a thing at the top. Sorry Eurobrat (she’s going to spank me). Love ya, Nananoyz. xo
03/09/2016 at 2:28 pm
Giggling here!
03/09/2016 at 6:56 pm
Ahahahaha…I’m away from my blog for a moment and this happens…you ladies are having way too much fun! Keep in mind, that “eating out humanity” thing may become illegal under a Cruz presidency 😉
Trump still terrifies me, though.
03/10/2016 at 4:18 am
Cruz will suck all the fun out of life….
03/09/2016 at 6:57 pm
Yeah, I keep hoping it’s some kind of giant Candid Camera joke. “You’ve been punked, America!”
03/09/2016 at 7:20 pm
Hosted by Will Smith, hopefully. ((Hugs)) And lots of Buddhist/Shinto chanting.
03/09/2016 at 7:28 pm
Yes! That would be cool.
03/11/2016 at 12:32 pm
Oh, America has been punked alright.
People everywhere are stupid & gullible, but America is by far the most “punkable” nation on the planet. This jackass almost made a career of it.
Not just Rick Mercer, but the last 30+ years has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Americans will fall for ANYTHING…and it’s only getting worse.

I could write a book about the Donald Trump (aka Drumpf) phenomenon. But today, I’ll give the Lame Duck President (6 years & counting!) a poke to check if he’s still alive…or at least as lively as he ever got.
“The racists of this country have had a rough seven years trying to deal with the reality of a black President.”
Not just that, there’s the millions of folks who were absolutely positive they weren’t racists who suddenly had to channel their deeply closeted racism toward a “less racist” outlet for their racism. (aka fighting “socialism”)
“Despite the fact that his administration is responsible for a record number of deportations… This although he (Obama) has expanded George W’s drone strike program. “
Which are facts we Lefties have really failed to acknowledge, absorb and oppose.
Obama has deported more “illegals” than anyone else. This despite there being a “Net Zero” illegal immigration since about 2008. That makes those numbers even more impressive, the result a very serious effort to lighten the average skin colour of America. (Cause there sure ain’t no Canadians getting deported!) If the guy was a white Republican, this would be a point of heavy criticism from Lefties. But it isn’t. I guess we’re…”fighting socialism”?
Obama has killed more motherfuckers with drones than Bush did. Forget evidence, trials and other quaint notions of “human rights” or “presumed innocence” that “democracies” (giggle!) operate under… Most of the time, they have absolutely NO idea who they are targeting for death. None. But why care? Nobody is paying attention because nobody gives a fuck. And even if they did, as long as the flesh puddles were once males of military age, they’re automatically classified as “enemy combatants”.
Wash your hands and have a good sleep, Barry! You’ve helped make the world a safer place for white people. Mission accomplished! And don’t worry. Hillary will pick up right where you left off.
I like to think of both these “uncomfortable truths” as Obama letting his “white half” off the leash. Deporting faceless off-white people and drone striking faceless off-white people, neither of whom anybody cares about, is a great way to work out his frustrations with minimal criticism from either side.
And as for the domestic darker-tinted folks getting killed by domestic forces of the US Empire, that may be the most difficult tight rope of all for Barry. Because they’re darker tinted folks that some segments of society actually give a slight shit about, he’s got to “talk the talk”, but he can never let himself “walk the walk”.
It seems Barry has his own internal “racial divisions” he really needs to work on. Until then, he’ll stay on guard against “socialism” for us.
03/12/2016 at 5:49 pm
“Fighting socialism”…kind of like people use the term “religious liberty” to cover up their homophobia.
Yes, Obama’s presidency has had its flaws for sure, and we cannot forget about that. Still, watching him give a speech today (at which he made fun of Trump’s cheap wine) made me realize just how much I’ll miss his administration…my next post is going to be about that 🙂
03/13/2016 at 2:39 pm
Yeah, Obama is like a glass of room temperature milk. (White milk because chocolate is “too edgy”.)
03/13/2016 at 5:39 pm
Who knew I could get so sentimental over room temperature milk 😉
03/25/2016 at 10:57 am
I’ve already got the outline of a response in mind to your “Already Missing The Room Temperature Milk” story, so hop to it. 😉

Meh. I’m not sure there’s much of a point. I feel out of step with the world this year, and there’s increasingly less and less sense in my trying to write about it. I’m thinking it might be a good idea to take a hiatus from the blog for now, at least until the craziness dies down a little. Or maybe switch to something else for a breather, like non-political fiction?
Anyway, if you’ve got a good response about Obama, great. Maybe post it as a stand-alone on your own page? I’ll like and comment it. Have a good holiday weekend!

“Out of step with the world this year“? I’ve been increasingly out of step with the world every year since….shit…Raygun was in office! The good news is that craziness only makes your blogging job easier. No shortage of material out there and -as the shrinks say- talking about the crazy is very healthy.
And the craziness ain’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s only getting worse and spreading through all facets of society. Dr Sedate Me’s recommendation for dealing with crazy? Two medicinal brownies and blog me in the morning.
And a hiatus? That’s not allowed. About 95% of the blogs that I used to read (that still allow me to post) are “on-hiatus”. Most for 3 years & counting. I’m down to you and 2-3 others, all but one of which are more constipated than…you’d imagine Bernie Sanders to be. 😉
Speaking of which, the Oregon Primary is coming up and I want a chance to light you on fire for Bernie…er…you know what I mean.
(PS Like Jimmy Carter, I’m too hip to use e-mail. Retro all the way, baby.)
03/31/2016 at 6:54 pm
Ha, trying to get me to feel the Bern, huh? So to speak. In that case, my hiatus might need to be even longer, since I’m sick and tired of hearing about the guy. See you back here in a few months? Couple years? Heh heh.
And I wouldn’t worry too much about the Oregon primary. I’m pretty sure this state will overwhelmingly go to Bernie, so my puny little Hillary vote won’t make much of a difference.
I’m sure you’ve felt out of step with the world for much of your life–and can understand the feeling–but it least it sounds like this election season, you’ve got a side you can relate to (Bernie). I’m not in love with either Bernie (although I’ve tried to be) or Trump/Cruz, so it really does feel like there’s no place for me this year.
Ah well. In the larger scheme of things, none of this is a biggie. I’ll probably write something soon, but I do need a break. I’ll take two medicinal beers and hope we both have a good night.

1) Hey, we ALL need a break from time to time. Just like my mouse. He’s been taking a break for the last 3 weeks, constantly freezing & bleeping at me. He’s a teenager now and is probably protesting the fact that mice have been genetically engineered not to have balls anymore. I can sympathize. However, I can’t do squat on the computer without him. I want to beat him to death & end his ball-less misery. But that’s animal cruelty…I’d also have to buy a new mouse with…my pocket lint???
Take a break, if you must. However, the longer your break from a good habit (and its good, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.) the harder it is to get back on that horse. That’s when the bad habits start. It’s funny how all bad habits today are super easy and all good habits are painfully hard. This is why we’re in the shit that we’re in.
If you write about other stuff for a bit (ie drunken ho’s that wash up on your front lawn every night), you’ll at least keep your “brain muscles” toned, which is a lot more than I can say for 99% of the population.
2) No love for Bernie? Gee, even most conservatives who despise his policies will secretly confess to liking the guy. Meanwhile, everybody hates Ted Cruz, even most of the people voting for him! Strange brew -eh? But this kind of train-wreck is how history gets made. (See 1968) It’s not nearly as romantic as everyone retroactively pretends it was. Like with diapers, even a good change can get nasty.
Yes, I adore Bernie’s Larry David-like cantankerous style. But his policies truly are where the country needs to go if it has ANY hope. But I can absolutely see how your job (soon to be ex-job?) might be casting a dark shadow over everything. But as you previously wrote, we ALL know whose callous, uncaring, policies are to blame. And those fuckers need to pay! They’ve been ruining everything for 30 years now. This ocean liner of shit needs to start turning around now!
Yes, I can see how living in Bernie-friendly Portlandia would be like living beside a Mormon compound. Every time you go outside to buy your artisinal pickles & cheese from bearded hipsters in overalls, you get proselytized. I’m sure it can get REALLY annoying getting lectured 30 times a day by people who are all-too-aware they’re 100% right. (Who me?)
For me, voting is ALL about policy and Bernie just has the best package. I also trust the guy FAR more than I trust any other candidate. I like Hillary enough to vote for her as a “least worst” option, but I trust her less than I trust Bill alone in a room full of young models.
But this is an ultra-rare case of “getting to eat your cake & keep it too.” You can vote for Bernie now and vote for Hillary later, when your vote actually counts. Because thanks to Super-Delegates, the Democratic Primaries don’t matter at all. Bernie could have actually lost, even if he won every single state! But the better Bernie does, the louder the message of “Take this shit seriously!” After 30 years of the system ignoring it, the shit he talks about needs to be taken seriously. Otherwise, everything will only continue to get worse.
That’s it. That’s all. Wasn’t too painful, was it? Hardly any burning at all. 😉
3) Things could be worse…and they almost certainly will. Learn to enjoy the pain, if only ironically. And if you’re not into irony, (See: young hipsters voting for the oldest candidate ever) you’re probably living in the wrong city!
Or at least “self-medicate” 😉 Me? I find that almost nothing can’t be (temporarily) forgotten by medicinal brownies & The Trailer Park Boys. Here, take a hit.

Sorry to hear about your mouse. I think this can be filed under the “technology will make our lives easier!” category. Also, thanks for the encouragement to keep blogging. As you can see, even though I keep claiming that I’m about to take a hiatus, I keep coming back. As bad at keeping my promises as the candidates this year…haha…oof.
The Bern really only causes a minimal bern. I know what you mean about being able to vote for both this year. I have quite a few friends who are planning to do that, and are in fact thinking of casting a symbolic vote for Bernie or Jill Stein in the general election–because Oregon is such a safe bet that there’s no way Trump or Cruz would carry it anyway. For me, it’s not about the electability issue–I like Hillary better, so I want to vote for her both now & later. I realize I’m in the minority on this…perhaps I like her because she is a little bit evil. May the bitch prevail is what I say.
Finally, I agree that no matter who wins, things will probably get worse. Not sure exactly what will happen, but one thing I’m sure about is that you’ll need your brownies and I’ll need my alcohol…
